Bannatyne Health Clubs, the health club chain owned by Dragon's Den star Duncan Bannatyne, have changed their sunbed policy to only allow 18 year olds and over, an increase in age from the previous age of 16.
Duncan Bannatyne recently clashed with Watchdog presenter Anne Robinson after she criticised him for allowing people to use sunbeds in his health clubs, especially as sunbeds are now considered to be as dangerous as cigarettes in causing cancer by the World Health Organisation. A ban for under 18s is already in place in Scotland.
A Watchdog undercover reporter showed that a Bannatyne Health Club had allowed a 15 year old to use a sunbed. The reporter claimed to be 16 be no age checks were made by Bannatyne staff.
Duncan Bannatyne said his chain had now overhauled its policy after the programme team brought his attention to a recent report by the Committee on Medical Aspects of Radiation which recommended a ban on sunbed use by under-18s.
