A study by the yoghurt manufacturer Yalkult has revealed that 20% of women put on a stone and a half of excess weight within a year of marriage. The study asked 3,000 women whether they had put on weight after marriage and the reasons behind their weight gain.
The reasons attributed to this weight gain within the first year of marriage included feeling relaxed with their partner, losing the need to impress and boredom.
More than half of those women who gained weight said they no longer worried about their appearance, 42 percent of women admitted that they became too relaxed with their husband, and 22 percent of women felt they no longer needed to impress.
25 percent of women who gained weight suggested that they didn't eat healthily any more as they didn't have their wedding day as a target and a focus for weight loss or weight management and 31 percent of women suggested they comfort ate as a result boredom having planned for and then seen their wedding day come and go.
The study also observed that a third of women did less exercise in the first few months after marriage than they did before getting married.
