First aid at work qualification
The St John Ambulance First Aid at Work training course, is as you'd expect, a HSE approved course and qualification. This gives the St John Ambulance First Aid at Work course the recognised ceal of approval, allowing course graduates to practice health and safety on work colleagues and the general public when call for.
This course covers the practical skills needed by a first aider in the modern workplace. The course will give you the confidence and knowledge to deal with first aid emergencies.

Nominated workplace first aiders, or anyone wanting a comprehensive introduction to first aid.

First Aid at Work course content
The First Aid at Work course delivered by St John Ambulance will allow First Aid students to learn a number of key first aid at work and healthy and safety areas, icnluding:
- Accidents and illness
- Using a first aid kit
- Simple record keeping
- Treatment of an unconscious casualty
- Treatment of heart attacks
- Resuscitation
- Treating shock
- Treating and dealing with choking
- Assessing and treating bleeding
- Assessing and treating burns and scalds
- Treating poisoning
- Assessing and treating fractures
- Treating seizures
- Treating asthma
- Assessing and treating severe allergic reaction
- Assessing and treating eye injuries
- Low blood sugar
- Dealing with fainting
First Aid at Work assessment and certification
After completing a final assessment successful candidates receive an HSE approved certificate valid for three years.
This course is legally compliant with the current Health and Safety (first aid) Regulations 1981. Upon successful completion of this four day course, first aiders receive certification to allow them to practise for three years after which a re-qualification course becomes necessary.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillation (AED) course
St John Ambulance also run a seperate Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillation (AED) training course.
Who should attend this course?
The CPR and AED training course is suitable for anyone interested in furthering their emergency aid skills, or takes part in an organised first aid scheme. For health care workers, this course serves as a basic module.
