Types of spa: Health farms
A health farm is a dedicated spa venue where guests are encouraged to wander around the venue in robes, unlike a hotel spa where this behaviour would be frowned upon by other paying guests! Traditionally, the term 'health farm' conjures up the idea of excessive amounts of exercise and extreme dieting. However, these days health farms are totally different. Health farms are now the ideal de-stress option for people looking to relax, unwind and get away from in all for a day or two.
Typically a health farm is used as a retreat, a get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A health farm is usually situated in picturesque countryside where guests can stay for a period of time on the often sprawling spa complex.
What you can expect from a health farm
Like many spas, taking the health farm option opens up the chance to partake in numerous spa and beauty treatments, including:
- Massage - from Indian head massage to Swedish massage and deep tissue massage
- Facials - Cleansing, exfoliation, face packs, facial massage etc
- Manicures
- Pedicures
- Body wraps
- Mud packs
- Baths
- Pools
- Steam and sauna facilities
Health farms fo weight loss
Traditionally, health farms were places of extreme dieting (the lettuce and orange juice diet anyone!) and punishing exercise rountines. However, although exercise and dieting can still be on your health farm agenda, these days the exercise and dieting options are a little more scientific - eating little and often and exercising at a specific heart rate.
NOTE: Please be aware that health farms may vary depending on their location and your choice of health farm.
