YMCA Fit Kid's Fitness training courses
YMCA Kid's Fitness training courses are designed to help you reach out and inspire children to enjoy fitness and activity. The YMCA Fit qualifications will give you the specialist knowledge to design and deliver safe, fun-filled kids' exercise programmes. You"ll learn to adapt your skills for children all the way from the ages of five to sixteen and how to use different activities to motivate them.
YMCA courses on offer
You can choose to specialise in either street dance or play taking YMCA Kids' Fitness Street Dance or YMCA Kids' Fitness Play and Games.
The course also examines setting up and running after school activities, holiday play and activity schemes and teaching on an already established kids programme.
YMCA Kid's fitness courses
The YMCA Kid's Fitness tutors have extensive experience of working with children and throughout the course they will share their unique knowledge and practical experience with you.
Both YMCA Kids' Fitness courses are ideal for anyone interested in running health related exercise sessions for children, those already running sessions but do not have a formal qualification and current fitness instructors wanting to broaden their skills to work with children. They are also suitable for instructors who would like to develop their skills in kids' fitness and activity sessions.
Streetdance and Play & Games course content
Both the YMCA Streetdance and Play & Games training courses will allow students to learn fundemental skills needed to successfully teach physical activity to children. On each fitness training course students will learn to:
- Identify the major bones, muscles and muscle actions of the body
- Explain the workings of the cardiovascular system
- Identify the components and principles of health and fitness
- Understand the basic components of nutrition and a balanced diet and how they relate to growth and development in kids
- Recognise social, emotional and psychological factors when working with children
- Plan, teach and evaluate a safe and effective kid's exercise programme
- Understand the national standards for day care
Course format
The YMCA Kid's Fitness training courses allow a certain level of student flexibility within the course format. The course is made of of home-based study and the attendance of 5 days of practical study plus a theory examination and a progressive programme of study.
During the course students will choose to specialise in either streetdance or gym-based activities for the practical programme.
