Find a qualified personal trainer checklist
When choosing a personal trainer there are a number of things you'll need to check BEFORE your hire them. The first thing to consider is why you need a personal trainer. Are you new to fitness? Do you lack motivation? Are you after a kickstart after a layoff from exercise? Once you have outlined why you need a fitness trainer, the next thing to do is to contact quality personal trainers in your local area.
Quality personal trainers
A quality personal trainer should provide:
- A portfolio of qualifications in personal training and / or a degree in exercise science
- A valid first aid certificate
- Valid public liability insurance
- References from current / previous clients
Training techniques
All personal trainers should have qualifications and experience in resistance and cardiovascular training. Outside of those two staple training techniques personal trainers may be qualified in any of the the following areas:
- Fitness testing
- Performance enhancement
- Core strength training
- Nutrition
- Corporate fitness
- Weight loss programming
- Cardiac rehabilitation
- Postural improvement
- Physiotherapy
