Biceps Brachii Short Head
As the name suggests, the biceps brachii muscle is a two headed muscle located to the front of the upper arm, composing of a short and long head. The short head is situated to the inside area of the upper arm. Being one of the most flexed muscles on the bodybuilding stage, the biceps has commonly been a muscle which illustrates size and power.
Being an elbow flexor, the biceps brachii is important in sports which require a lot of pulling and grabbing, commonly in contact sports. Sports which rely heavily on the triceps, such as over head hitting sports, may also benefit from well developed arm flexors, to help balanced the muscles of the arm in a triceps dominant sport.
Recruited heavily during many compound exercises such as the row and pull up, the biceps brachii will receive significant stress during many back workouts. For those who wish to stimulate the biceps brachii directly, the arm flexors can be isolated with a whole host of different variations of arm curls.
When training for muscular size it is often best to train in a rep range of 6-12 repetitions, although there is often much debate on the optimal rep range. It would be advisable to experiment with different ranges to see which suits you.
