Brachialis
This elbow flexor runs beneath the commonly known biceps brachii muscle, and is also responsible for the action of flexing the lower arm up to the upper arm. The brachialis muscle is heavily recruited during most movements which involve the flexion of the elbow, regardless of the grip.
Important for a well developed upper arm in bodybuilding, the brachialis muscle is also heavily involved in a lot of sports in which grabbing and pulling are readily used, such as rugby and wrestling.
Recruited during elbow flexion, the brachialis will receive a lot of stress during most bicep isolation exercises, and also during pulling compound exercises such as the row and pull up.
When training for muscular size it is often best to train in a rep range of 6-12 repetitions, although there is often much debate on the optimal rep range. It would be advisable to experiment with different ranges to see which suits you.
