Roman chair hip raises
The roman chair is a piece of fitness equipment which is specifically designed to perform the hip raise, with a back pad and two extending arms for support. Roman chair hip raises recruit the obliques and rectus abdominis via the flexion of the spine, but bring the pelvis towards the ribs. The hip flexors are greatly involved in this movement, especially during the first portion of the exercise.
The hip raise will not provide fruitful result in fat loss of the midsection, with the exercise providing stress for muscle strength and hypertrophy to occur. The reduction of fat loss is best achieved vai the correct diet and cardiovascular activities.
Performing Roman chair hip raises
- Climb onto roman chair using foot supports.
- Position body so that back is pressed against the back pad to the rear, and arms are supporting the body on padded parallel bars.
- Allow legs to free hang, using the forearms to support position.
- Raise legs by flexing at hip, whilst bending at the knee also.
- Continue to bring the knees towards shoulders by flexing the waist.
- Once peak contraction is reached, slowly control legs back to starting position.
- Repeat for desired amount of repetitions.
