Middle Trapezius
The trapezuis, which gets its name from its shape, is the muscle which is located to the middle and upper back. The middle trapezius is located to the upper central area of the back, and is usually visible when low levels of body fat is reached and the muscle is well devolved.
Many general back exercises will effectively target the middle trapezius, due to scapular retraction. Rowing exercises and pull up exercise variations will stimulate the middle trapezius. The middle trapezius is also worked during over head pressing exercises due to the upward rotational movement of the shoulder.
For the reasons outlined above the middle trapezius is usually devolved from balanced back and shoulder training sessions, and one should not worry about attempting to target the middle trapezius directly.
When training for muscular size it is often best to train in a rep range of 6-12 repetitions, although there is often much debate on the optimal rep range. It would be advisable to experiment with different ranges to see which suits you.
