Nutrition Specialist Diploma
The Nutrition Specialist Diploma course allows graduating students and fitness professionals to give nutritional and weight management based advice to clients. The Diploma consists of the following courses:

1. Nutrition and Weight Management course
The vast majority of people who employ the services of a Personal Trainer of Fitness Instructor are looking for nutrition and weight management advice in order to help them regulate or decrease their weight.
The online Nutrition and Weight Management course is designed to equip students and fitness professionals with a core knowledge of diet and nutrition. It will give course graduates a sound grounding in nutrition based on scientifically researched principles, and will enable you to give sound nutritional advice and training.
The course awards 20 CPD points on Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs), and consists of the following areas of study:
Fundamentals of nutrition:
- factors that influence eating habits
- what constitutes a healthy diet
- macro-nutrients (proteins, carbohydrates and fats)
- micro-nutrients (vitamins and minerals)
- NSP (fibre)
Optimal nutrition:
- the balance of good health: plate model
- fundamentals of digestion
- how food is utilised for energy
- how the body stores energy
- energy balance - the bigger picture
- exercise and weight loss - which type of exercise works
- body fat percentage - comparing different techniques for calculating this key area of weight management

2. Nutrition for Sport and Exercise course
This home study course focuses on the application of nutrition to the area of sport and exercise. It will help you advise clients training for a particular sport, as well as those simply seeking to improve their overall health.
The course awards 20 CPD points on REPs, and consists of the following areas of study:
- carbohydrates
- minerals
- fats and proteins
- fluids
- Creatine
- caffeine
- antioxidants
- supplements
- vitamins
- working with sports minded people.
3. Client Psychology and Motivation course
The online Client Psychology and Motivation course will give you a good understanding of the psychological aspects of change, as it is an important skill which enables you to help your clients achieve their goals.
The course awards 16 CPD points on REPs, and consists of the following areas of study:
- improving your communication and consultation skills
- active and reflective listening techniques
- introduction to the psychology of human behaviour
- the transtheoretical model for change
- introduction to psychometric testing and their use in weight management/exercise adherence
- how to use psychometric testing as a tool for change
- goal setting.
After graduating...
Once you have taken the assessments for each course you will have a sound understanding of nutrition and the psychological aspects of change. This will enable you to offer nutrition and weight management advice to a range of clients.
