Sternal Head of the Pectoralis Major
Composing the bottom region of the chest, the sternal head is one of two heads which comprises the prectoralis major muscles, which composes the main mass of the chest region.
Commonly targeted with bench press and fly variations, the sternal head is recruited during the transverse flexion and abduction of the shoulder. Although the sternal head is optimally targeted with bench presses and fly movements, the muscle can also be stressed from pull over exercises via extension of the shoulder.
When training for muscular size it is often best to train in a rep range of 6-12 repetitions, although there is often much debate on the optimal rep range. It would be advisable to experiment with different ranges to see which suits you.
